Joseph S. Cronk, AIA Associate

Joseph Cronk experienced the traditional architecture of the south from the likes of Classicists Phillip Schutze, Neil Reed, Edward Vason Jones and Frank McCall while growing up in Atlanta. This foundation grew to a passion for architecture and craft and ultimately led to a path were he received his formal schooling at the University of Florida College of Architecture. Within this modernist curriculum, Cronk expanded his architectural spectrum to include classical study and began his development as a traditionalist, focusing on historical preservation and southern vernacular architecture.

After receiving his degree at Florida, Cronk had the opportunity to learn the design-build philosophy at The Haskell Company were he held positions in both architectural design and construction project management. It was there that Cronk met his business/design partner Cliff Duch. They both shared a passion for classical architecture and created several traditional works together throughout the south. This work led Cronk to the Masters of Architecture program at The University of Florida with a focus on Historical Preservation. There Cronk developed his interest and passion for colonial Caribbean architecture and the influences it has on southern buildings and place. The Caribbean Institute program at the University allowed Cronk to strengthen this passion with other designers and perservationalists through the Islands.

In 1998, Cronk and Duch started their own design firm to focus on traditional architecture and neighborhood planning along with the master builder approach to construction. Together they have completed projects ranging from Town centers and traditional neighborhoods to Florida Keys resorts and heirloom homes in the south and the Caribbean.
